What we tried
The Fat Gringo burger, grilled pork back ribs, short ribs, tobacco onions, Waldorf coleslaw, beef dripping chips
Verdict
Heaven for carnivores that want something beyond the ordinary.
This is the first place we tried in the new Brixton market area and it has come to be one of our favourite places. We love barbecue and they add some really creative twists that make it just a little more exciting than other places we’ve tried.
Short ribs – not a very common sight on BBQ menus in the UK. Really more like steak than ribs, but all amazingly tender and delicious!
Pork back ribs – also really good, but not quite as exciting as their ‘short’ cousins.
The Fat Gringo burger. Officially – a beef patty, topped with Monterrey Jack cheese and candied bacon, jalapeno mustard, red onions, tomato, lettuce and a smoked pickle. Unofficially – just an amazing, messy feast. Make sure you are really hungry to order it though!
The thing that caught my eye the most when I first picked up the menu were the sides – oh the sides! Chips cooked in beef dripping – no health nuts here – are a seriously rich treat. Tobacco onions – what are tobacco onions? We also had no idea – some strange new seasoning fad? Nope – just a crispy heap of deep-fried onions that happens to look like a pile of tobacco, a must order. And Waldorf coleslaw – crunchy and just a little bit sweet, a great contrast to the richness of all the meat and fried things.
A great selection of funky beers too.

This tastes as good as it looks!
